nokia n800 review: in-depth gadget review

well, it’s been about 24 hours now since i got my new toy, “roscoe” - aka the nokia n800 internet tablet - and i must say i’m rather impressed. while for most people it would be just that - a toy - i purchased it mostly for its VOIP capabilities via Skype and the Gizmo Project. prior to buying this, i’ve been using Skype for my business phone service, probably the most affordable phone line around even if it doesn’t have emergency/9-1-1 service.

the above is a screenshot from the interface, and while i initially found the lack of icon labels disorienting, they quickly made sense, and anyway i was connected and surfing online literally 1-2 minutes from opening the box and sliding the battery and memory card into place. the setup screens are easy and quick, and installing skype via the included install link was quick and easy and i was online and making/receiving calls in no time[extra bonus: skype includes a voucher for 3 months of unlimited calling to phones in the united states and canada with purchase!]. overall, the call quality so far has even been better than i’ve had with some cell carriers… most namely at&t, but that’s beside the point.
