this is yet another profound special comment from countdown with keith olbermann that i thought worthy of passing on. for mccain, someone who touts his military veteran status as giving him more experience over obama in the race for the presidency, he should DEFINITELY know better than to say it’s “not important” to bring our troops home.
this hits home for me on a number of levels, but primarily because my older brother alex ships out tomorrow for a new 15 month deployment in iraq. he’s a fine soldier, a patriot, and he will be missed. please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for posting this, Stephen. Alex called me very early this morning. He didn’t actually depart from Ft. Hood yesterday as scheduled because the plane had mechanical trouble. At this point, though, he should be enroute. He’s not looking forward to the 17-hour journey. Before I left him yesterday morning he said, “This just doesn’t make sense,” referring to the fact that his unit is headed to Iraq (and esentially to the entire war effort). I’m glad you were able to come to DC to spend some time with him before his deployment. It was also really great to finally meet you. We’ll see you on his mid-tour leave. Take care and please keep in touch. Oh yeah, and thanks for the b/w photo of us. It turned out really nice. I’m framing it today. -Jess
