i’m stephen h. i live in portland oregon, and am 28 years old.

i’ve been creating/designing one thing or another pretty much non-stop for over ten years, be it audio broadcast production, web design, record labels, CDs, books, sounds, images, logos, software, hardware, and so on. i’m a junky for trying to take limited resources and make them at least look unlimited, if not act that way. i put these talents to work via company of H, my freelance graphic design business.

my main passions in the artistic world are writing, photography, and music.

for years i wrote mostly just poetry[and bad poetry at that], and self-published them online or as chapbooks that rarely sold any copies. one such collection still available[as it contains some of the less-horrid writings] is damn all the lovers. the next major project was my first suicide, a story about portland’s underground history, complete with black and white photography of downtown portland. the gallery/collection was originally placed online in March 2005 and seen by hundreds of people online before i adapted it for the solo art gallery shows listed below. the adaptation[see link above] included a re-write of the original story, which was then published with the photos in a chapbook available online and at the shows. additional writings can be seen online at stephenh.org including the short fiction piece entitled 40 by 32.

as a photographer i’ve had gallery exhibitions at places like Backspace[group show July 2005] and Sequential Art Gallery & Studio[solo show May 2006] in Portland, OR, plus a solo gallery and reading of my first suicide at TOMfest 2006 as well. in addition i designed and constructed custom photo frames for the shows which can be seen/ordered here, plus a custom “pine box” casket used as part of the performance art for the shows.

my photos have also been featured in assorted publications both in print and online, including a calendar produced by members of Art Conspiracy.com as well as a recent issue of the Words Dance zine. In addition, I’ve done photography for clients including Blush Premier Makeup Artists and the Discovery Theatre Lab.

i have long had a passion for music, even if i’m not so great at it myself. nonetheless, i still enjoy the process, and in 2006 i released my debut EP entitled it. in November 2006 i wrote and recorded a music score for a scene in Discovery Theatre Lab’s production of Shakespeare’s romeo & juliet. currently, additional music can be heard online at purevolume and myspace music.

i have a passion for all the arts, as well. writers, painters, photographers, designers, architects, engineers, musicians, filmmakers, actors, directors, vocalists, poets, tattoo artists, potters, glass-blowers and so on… i have a passion for getting to know these people, and working with them or for them to achieve common goals. if you are such a person looking to collaborate, and think my talents might contribute to an idea/project you have, let me know!

other than that… i’m very much a restless soul, even on my lazy days.
